Our early morning departure had us escape the bustle of New Delhi to the mountain town of Kullu (hustle and bustle light). We drove four hours up to Jalori Pass at about 9,700 feet above sea level. (here are a few pics from the last couple of days)

At the end of the road, we step into the wilderness. Our guide took us through one of Himachal Pradesh’s biggest birch forests. Our three hour trek was mostly level as we made our way to the sacred spot for worshipping the “Goddess Budhi Nagin” (the Goddess of Ghee – clarified butter – who knew? J )

As part of the worship, the pilgrims who come here walk around Sareulsar Lake pouring an unbroken line of ghee. The area is surrounded by dense forest and fields of wild flowers. Swimming is possible but I am passing on that.
